Getting started

Welcome to Avatarverse, an open-world Minecraft server based on the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra. Avatarverse is an RPG (Roleplaying Game) server, in which each player creates a character through which they interact with the world.

The world map

The world of Avatarverse RPG has conventions that differ from those of other Minecraft servers. It is not full of ores and other resources, and destruction of the world at the hands of players is discouraged, or in some places, prohibited. The world is full of builds converted into Minecraft from the Avatar world's canon content by Avatarverse's skilled team of builders. Without them, the world would not be the same, which is why griefing (destruction of buildings) is a bannable offense.

Nations

One of the primary features of Avatarverse's RPG world is the presence of player-run nation states governing almost all characters.

Note

On Avatarverse, we give players the freedom to steer national and international politics on their own accord. Therefore, nation leaders can make and unmake laws, punish their citizens justly or unjustly, declare wars, etc. A nation is also not guaranteed to always exist. That said, in extraordinary circumstances, the Roleplay Council—an apparatus of 9 people with the power to govern roleplay matters—reserves the right to intervene in situations that are believed to cause excessive or irreversible damage to the roleplay integrity of the server.

The bottom line is that nations are complex player-run roleplay systems. They are the backdrop of all roleplay on the server and the building blocks of player-driven politics.

Typically, a nation will consist of a hierarchy of ranks or positions that characters may fill in order to have something to do on the server while contributing to their nation's power and the server's roleplay. At the top is this hierarchy is usually one person, called a Nation Leader or NL, but in some cases, nations can be ruled by two or more individuals. The NL may hire others to help them rule their nation in some capacity, people called High-Ranking Officials or HROs. Your early time on the server will probably be spent finding your place within a nation's rank hierarchy.

Nations organize on their own Discord servers owned by the nation's leader and passed from one leader to another. These servers vary significantly because the NLs have full creative freedom but must abide by Avatarverse rules in these spaces nonetheless.

Resource nodes

Because the world lacks naturally generated resources, it is instead filled with regenerating areas dedicated to specific resources called nodes.

A node is usually a small area that contains copious amounts of a specific resource or set of resources, as well as a clickable sign that allows anyone to regenerate the node every hour, although some nodes have a longer cooldown.

These nodes are owned by certain nations and typically forbid resource extraction by foreigners. They have largely become political tools for nation leaders, who use them as the basis of trade deals, node-sharing alliances, or in other ways.

Characters and roleplay

Main article

Characters

The way you interact with the world of Avatarverse as a player is through your roleplay character. First, you must create a character with /create and complete the menu that opens.

Upon character completion, you are teleported either to the city you chose or your nation's capital.

Beginning in a nation

You've been teleported to a city in the nation you've just chosen. Hopefully, there is an information board nearby that can tell you some important things you need to know, but if not, keep reading.

You might run the command /card to see your character's information. By default, you are a regular citizen in your chosen nation, without a rank.

You should join your nation's Discord server to get started there. If you don't have the link to their server, you can find it in the Avatarverse Discord in the #nation-discords channel.

You should also go to the main Avatarverse Discord and send a message in #choose-a-nation following the format. This will inform your NL that they have a new citizen to greet, and once they accept you, they'll give you the proper roles you need in both the Avatarverse and nation Discords.

Until then, you should just explore your new nation or other parts of the world. There are plenty of sights to see, and if there are other players on the server, you should talk to them, get to know them, and ask to roleplay with them. This could be your first chance to interact with others and develop your character.

If you like the server, you might want to learn a little bit more about what's been going on recently, to give yourself context on the world you've just entered. On the Discord server, there's a channel called #global-politics where NLs and HROs make announcements and sometimes have discourses or disputes. Scrolling through that channel should give you a good idea of not only recent events, but also public reactions to those events. Similarly, #world-radio is an in-character Discord channel open to all, so you might find it interesting to read through that or even speak there yourself (as your character).
