Chat

The Minecraft server contains a set of channels through which players can chat. There are two types of channels:

  1. Out-of-character (OOC) channels
  2. In-character (IC) channels

Channels can also be global, where your chat is heard across the whole world, or local, where your chat is heard only within a certain range.

Each channel has a short command you execute to enter it. You can also use that command and type words after it to send a message to that channel without leaving your current channel.

Private messages

Just as with channels, private messages too are separated between out-of-character and in-character commands.

Message another player out-of-character with /msg <username> <message> or just /msg <username> to start a conversation with them in which you do not need to use /msg or /r every time. /r <message> is used to reply to someone who just messaged you.

Message another character with /bird <character> <message>. This will "send a bird" delivering your message to that character, which will take an amount of time proportionate to their distance from you. Birds travel at 50 blocks per second.
